NEW MUSIC FESTIVAL COMING TO NIAGARA ON THE LAKE

An exciting new project has just been anounced for Niagara on the Lake. The Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the National Arts Centre Orchestra will have a summer home, on the lakeshore, in Niagara on the Lake old town, just 1km from Abacot Hall. A 2,000 seat open "bandshell" will be constructed, with additional lawn seating capacity for 16,000 for major concerts, on a 247 acre site on the shores of Lake Ontario. Are we excited????? You bet we are. The Music Festival (as yet unnamed) is proposed as 12 weeks, six of which will feature the two symphony orchestras. Part of the site is the area where the first American soldiers landed in the War of 1812. It is hoped that the music festival will open in 2012 to coincide with the 200 year anniversary of the war. Perhaps it will open with the 1812 Overture! Tickets are not yet on sale - but as soon as they are I bet the line-up will be huge.
